Representing Singapore on the International Stage
As a cultural ambassador on the world stage, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra brings the nation’s artistry to audiences around the world through tours, recordings and partnerships. The SSO’s accolades include placing third in Gramophone’s prestigious Orchestra of the Year Award in 2021, and being named one of the 23 best orchestras in the world by BBC Music Magazine in 2022 – one of only two Asian orchestras and the second youngest on the list.
International Tours
The SSO has performed across Europe, Asia, Australia and the United States, most notably at the BBC Proms, Dresden Music Festival, Prague Spring International Festival, and Japan’s Asia Orchestra Week. Following a successful sold-out three-city Australian tour in 2025, the orchestra will embark on a seven-city tour in China in October 2026 which includes debuts in five cities. We also create international exposure opportunities for the Singapore National Youth Orchestra, most recently with its 2025 tour to Macau, Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
These international engagements strengthen Singapore’s cultural presence abroad, while providing a platform for us to spotlight Singaporean artists and composers, as we champion their works and share them with the global audience.
Albums and Digital Releases
The SSO has released more than 50 recordings, ranging from evergreen favourites to revivals of significant works. Some of our recent critically-acclaimed albums include A Hero’s Life (OUR Recordings), Symbiosis – Tribute to Bill Evans (Pentatone; rated with five stars by BBC Music Magazine) and a complete Mozart Violin Concerto cycle with Singaporean violinist Chloe Chua (Pentatone; #1 on Apple Music’s global Classical Top 100 chart upon release).
As part of our discography, we are also proud to pioneer artistic endeavours such as the reconstruction of Claus Ogerman’s Symbiosis and Kozłowski’s Requiem, rearrangement of Bernard Herrmann’s Echoes for string orchestra, and performances of violin concertos by Robert Russell Bennett and Vernon Duke.
