Mozart reached new levels of refinement and finesse with his Prussian Quartets, written near the end of his life. Beethoven, as he did with the symphonic form, expanded the possibilities of the string quartet. It should never be performed in public, he said of his Serioso Quartet, but only for a small circle of connoisseurs. It was too cutting-edge for its time. But today, 250 years after his birth, it is a startling example of his genius.

Chan Yoong-Han is currently the Fixed Chair first violinist in the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. A graduate of Rice University and the University of Massachussetts in Amherst, his principal teachers include Chan Yong Shing, Beryl Kimber, Sergiu Luca, Charles Treger, David Cerone, Kurt Sassmannshaus and Dorothy Delay. 
Yoong-Han has performed solo with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Szeged Symphony of Hungary, Singapore Chinese Orchestra, Singapore Youth Orchestra, Orchestra of the Music Makers, SAF Chinese Orchestra and Braddell Heights Symphony in concertos by Dvořák, Lalo, Berg, John Williams, Mozart, Martinů, Lutosławski, Wieniawski and Sibelius, appearing with conductors including Lan Shui, Lim Yau, Erwin Acel, Matthias Bamert, Anthony Inglis, Han Zhong Jie, Darrell Ang and Joshua Tan. He was invited to perform as soloist in the 2003 SSO President’s Young Performers Concert as well as the 1999 President’s Charity Concert. 
As concertmaster he has led the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Singapore Festival Orchestra (SFO), The Metropolitan Festival Orchestra (MFO), Orchestra of the Music-Makers (OMM) and The Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO). As part of Singapore’s Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2015, Yoong-Han was concertmaster of the MFO for the Sing50 concert in the National Stadium, as well as concertmaster of the OMM in its performance of Mahler’s Eighth Symphony and Singapore’s premiere of Wagner’s Die Walküre in 2020.
Yoong-Han has participated and performed in the Aspen Music Festival, Singapore Arts Festival, Adelaide Bach Festival, The Singapore Encore (Brussels), Cascade Head Music Festival and SSO Chamber Series amongst others. As a chamber musician he has collaborated and performed with Christian Blackshaw, Cho-Liang Lin, William Bennett, Claude Delangle, Dennis Lee, Chiao-Ying Chang, T’ang Quartet, Borodin Quartet, the Choir of King’s College (Cambridge), the Singapore Dance Theatre, Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble. Yoong-Han is also a violist in the Take5 Piano Quintet Series since 2007. 
In Singapore Yoong-Han is the recipient of the 2000 Shell-NAC Arts Scholarship and the 2004 NAC Young Artist Award. He is also a member of the Board of re:SOUND Collective. Yoong-Han has taught in the University of Massachusetts and Amherst College, and has been teaching in the School of the Arts Singapore since 2008. Besides making music, Yoong-Han enjoys sharing life with his wife and two children.

Yoong-Han Chan (Chan Yoong-Han)

Kong Xianlong, born into a musical family in Singapore in 1996, started violin lessons at the age of four with his grandfather. In 2007, he won the Second Prize in the Junior Category at the National Piano &amp; Violin Competition of Singapore and subsequently the First Prize in both Intermediate and Senior Category in 2009 and 2011. He also performed Sarasate’s Carmen Fantasy with the Singapore National Youth Orchestra in the Esplanade Concert Hall under the baton of Darrell Ang. In the following year, he won the First Prize in the senior category and the best Chinese work prize at the 2012 Hong Kong International Violin Competition.
His solo appearances include a collaboration with the China Philharmonic Orchestra, performing the Mozart Concertone for Two Violins in Beijing, April 2015. He was selected to join the Young Artist Programme at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore, at the age of 15 during his studies in Dunman Secondary School. He has had lessons with world-renowned violinists such as Cho-Liang Lin, Tong Weidong, Wang Hong, David Takeno, Keng-Yuen Tseng, Kam Ning, Walter Verdehr, Boris Kuschnir, and Shlomo Mintz. He also performed in the President’s Young Performers Concert playing Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5 with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in 2018. Xianlong graduated from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in 2019, and has been under the tutelage of Qian Zhou since 2009.
Xianlong is currently a member of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. He performs on a 1972 Bisiach, Leandro.

Xianlong Kong (Kong Xianlong)

Born in Sichuan, China, Zhao Tian began his violin lessons with his father when he was three years old.
He was admitted to the Sichuan Conservatory of Music to further his violin studies under Professor Hu Weimin at the age of 8. At the age of 18, he was awarded full scholarship to study at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music at the National University of Singapore, where he studied with Professor Qian Zhou. In 2014, he has been selected as exchange student to the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University. That same year, he received full scholarship from the Manhattan School of Music to pursue his double Master’s degree (in violin solo &amp; orchestral performance) with former concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic, Glenn Dicterow and world renowned violin professor, Lucie Robert. Prior to joining the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, he has worked with Baltimore Symphony Orchestra since 2016 and performed at the Proms in 2018.
An active chamber musician, Zhao Tian has participated in many music festivals including Aspen Music Festival, Texas Music Festival and those of the Music Academy of the West. He has collaborated in chamber music with many distinguished musicians and groups such as Glenn Dicterow, Gil Shaham, Pinchas Zukerman, Lucie Robert, David Takino, American String Quartet and Emerson String Quartet. Zhao Tian has appeared as soloist with the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Orchestra and Penang Philharmonic, performing concertos by Bruch and Tchaikovsky.
He performs on a 1737 Camillus Camilli violin generously loaned from Mr William Tan.

Tian Zhao (Zhao Tian)

Marietta Ku was born in Singapore into a musical family. With a singer-pianist mother and four aunts who were piano teachers, the piano was naturally her first childhood toy, before she decided to switch to the violin at the age of nine.
She subsequently studied at the Royal Academy of Music, London, under an SSO-PSC scholarship. A student of violist Roger Tapping, violinist Howard Davis and pianists Aaron Shorr and Antonietta Notariello, she graduated with an MMus, the Diploma of Advanced Studies, and the LRAM for violin, viola and piano.
In the UK, Marietta has worked with the Amadeus, Alberni and Chilingirian Quartets, and has been appointed principal violist at the Edinburgh Music Festival, the Reigate Music Festival and the Lake District Summer Music Festival. She is also the first Singaporean prize-winner at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition.
Marietta currently holds the dual post of violinist-cum-violist with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Co-founder of the chamber group SPITZE, she is an active recitalist and chamber musician. In her free time, she enjoys mountain-climbing and arranging music for string orchestra.

Marietta Ku

Dandan Wang started violin studies at the age of six. When she was 16, she switched to viola studies with Prof Xi-Di Shen. In 2010, Dandan started her undergraduate studies in the Shanghai Conservatory of Music with scholarship, where she was a student of Prof Nian Liu.
She performed in the Chamber Music Festival hosted by Shanghai Conservatory of Music and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in 2010. In 2015, she was invited by Oscar and Grammy-awarded Chinese Composer Tan Dun to perform his chamber music pieces in Shanghai and Beijing.
In January 2015, Dandan began her study in San Francisco Conservatory of Music as a graduate student. She was a student of Prof Jay Liu, Associate Principal Viola of San Francisco Symphony. In July 2016, she was admitted to Pacific Music Festival, one of the most famous festivals in the world. She served as the Principal Viola, performing with maestro Valery Gergiev, violinist Leonidas Kavakos, and with musicians from the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Metropolitan Opera, National Symphony and San Francisco Symphony. 
After graduating from San Francisco Conservatory, Dandan was a guest violist of the San Francisco Symphony and at the same time, a fellow musician of San Jose Opera.
Dandan has served as a violist tutti in the Singapore Symphony Orchestra since February 2018 and as a coach in the Singapore National Youth Orchestra.

Dandan Wang

Born in Tashkent city, Uzbekistan, Jamshid started learning the cello at the age of 7. In 2003, he entered Uspensky Specialized Music School, where he studied with Madina Galiulina for 12 years. In 2015, he entered Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore where he pursued his Bachelor's degree and studied with Ng Pei-Sian (Principal Cellist of SSO). In 2014, Jamshid won First Prize in the Knushevitsky International Cello Competition (Russia, Saratov).
He has had masterclasses with Jan Vogler, Alexander Buzlov, Qin Li-Wei, Ni Hai-Ye, Alexei Seleznyov, Tsutsumi Tsuyoshi, Vladimir Tonkha, Johan van Iersel, Jonathan Manson, Tillman Wick. Chamber masterclasses and collaborations with Gábor Takács-Nagy, London Haydn Quartet, Endellion Quartet, Amber Quartet, Takács Quartet, Alexander Sitkovetskiy, New Zealand Quartet, Shanghai quartet, The Juilliard String Quartet, and Shlomo Mintz.
As an orchestra musician Jamshid has been invited as a Guest Principal Cellist to the Sun Symphony Orchestra in Vietnam, Hanoi. He has performed in Uzbekistan, Russia, Ukraine, Austria, Switzerland, Korea, Singapore, Vietnam, France, Indonesia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
